Eco-Business Program
In 2005, to ensure that we were able to put our own guidelines into practice, we starting working with an experienced partner: Dalhousie University's Eco-Efficiency Centre in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
The Eco-Business Program is aimed at raising awareness on waste reduction, resource conservation, and the benefits of making the right environmental choices. The registered businesses are challenged to reduce the impact of their company while increasing profitability. The Eco-Business Program was created to engage companies on a longer-term basis in continually improving their environmental performance.
With the participation of the two provincial tourism industry associations (TIANS & TIANB), we were able to customize the Eco-Business Program for our tourism businesses around the Bay of Fundy.
Our Bay of Fundy Recommended Experience businesses have been participating in the Eco-business program since the Fall of 2005. Each business receives an on-site assessment, customized advice on further greening their business, a full report indicating areas of excellence as well as tasks for improvement, and on-going access to green business resource information to assist them with implementing changes.
Since October, 2006, the Bay of Fundy Tourism Partnership has recieved a national sustainable tourism award for its eco-business program as well as two regional awards.
