Code of Ethics
Whale Watching Code of Ethics
For over a decade, whale watch business operators in the Bay of Fundy have willingly adhered to a thorough set of whale watching guidelines that were developed in partnership with whale researchers in the bay.
The Bay of Fundy Tourism Partnership monitors all member whale watch businesses to insure that these guidelines are followed not only in spirit and in practice. We are proud to say that our Bay of Fundy Recommended Experience whale watch companies always take the best of care around the whales and sea mammals that share the Bay!
Sustainability Mystery Shopping
Our member businesses are "shopped" on a regular schedule by trained mystery shoppers. While much of this shop involves insuring that visitors have an absolutly top quality vacation experience with each member, we also assess the business's connection and sensitivity to the Fundy environment. The mystery shoppers report such initiatives as recycling and towel re-use policies at inns, or energy efficient lighting at an attraction, or re-usable containers being used for snacks during a kayaking adventure.
Fundy Tourism Business ERT Accord
After participating in workshop a couple years ago with guest facilitator Dr Peter McPhail from the Great Barrier Reef, our members indicated a strong interest to do even more to reduce the possible environmental impacts of operating tourism businesses in the Bay of Fundy region. After developing our own guidelines for Environmentally Responsible Tourism (ERT), we continued to develop an General Code of Ethics for all our tourism business members.
These guidelines formed the basis of the Eco-Business program that was developed for our tourism business members.
