October 2006- The Partnership wins a national award from the Tourism Industry Association of Canada. The Parks Canada Award for Sustainable Tourism recognizes our eco-business program which is delivered to all our members in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.

The objective of the eco-business program is to reduce our environmental impacts on the Bay by preventing pollution, reducing waste, conserving water and energy, and protecting its natural beauty.

The Eco-Efficiency Centre (an educational and environmental management outreach centre of Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Management) designed and delivered this customized green business program for this group of Bay of Fundy Tourism Business operators in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.

“We welcomed the opportunity to adapt our Eco-Business Program for the Fundy tourism industry’,” said Peggy Crawford, Eco-Efficiency Centre’s Manager, “While working with this group of tourism business operators we noted that many had already adopted some green business practices so we were able to raise the bar on sustainability even higher.”

The Eco-Business Program augments the current Bay of Fundy Recommended Experiences quality program and presents practical ways for Fundy tourism businesses to incorporate best environmental management practices into their day-to-day operations on an ongoing basis. The Eco-Efficiency Centre’s Eco-Business program is one of the only programs of its kind in Canada.

The Bay of Fundy Tourism Partnership congratulates all its business members for their ongoing efforts and leadership in keeping the Bay of Fundy "green".

Although all of our tourism business members are participating in the Eco-business program, one business in particular, Petite Passage Whale Watch, was recognized in June, 2006,for their strong environmental practices.
